"Intrigue and Art at the Fair- A celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Golden International Exposition"
February 23, 2019, 2:00pm, Skylight Gallery, Main Library
In honor of the 80th Anniversary of Golden Gate International Exposition (GGIE), the San Francisco History Center invites you to join Christie Nelson, author of Beautiful Illusion, Treasure Island, 1939, and Patricia Araujo, luminous painter of the forgotten treasures of The Magic City. Together, their illustrated presentation will pay tribute to the art and history of the Golden Gate International Exposition.
Mixing fact and fiction with a dash of noir, Beautiful Illusion is the story of the men and women who built the Expo, of a city within a city, of glamour and glitz, and of grandeur and bravado. What inspiration does Patricia Araujo see in Ralph Stackpole’s iconic Pacifica statue at the Fair? A selection of her captivating paintings are incorporated into the exhibition Illusion and the Magic City with a selection of ephemera, souvenirs and photographs from the San Francisco History Center collections.
