Happy 80th GGIE (Part II) with Treasure Island Museum at the Mechanics Institute Library - Thurs April 4th
GGIE 80th Anniversary Celebration, April 4th
11:30-6:00pm – Lectures - 4th Floor Meeting Room (capacity 80), tickets $5 for whole day
The first half of the day will be lectures/presentations at meeting room. Light snacks and coffee will be served. This all day festival will feature stimulating lectures, art, and presentations that interpret and bring the fair to life, and an evening party (period dress encouraged!) to celebrate San Francisco's "Pageant of the Pacific".
Presentations will include The GGIE and the Arts: a survey of the crucial role played by San Francisco's three world expos in the development of our art museums; San Francisco's brilliant museum directors and the spectacular art from Asia, Europe, and the Americas exhibited at the GGIE; the art of "Pacific Unity" created to support the fair's theme; and Art in Action, Diego Rivera, and federal support for the arts at the GGIE. Presented by the Mechanics' Institute in collaboration with the Treasure Island Museum.
Christie Nelson and I will give a talk & slideshow relating to her book and the expo and of my inspiration painting Pacifica to accompany this program. I shall also have on display some of my original paintings of GGIE. We're very excited to participate at the Mechanic's Institute and along with fantastic roster of presenters.
